How does changing your name effect your life?

My name in Annie. But I'm sick of being called that because in was my baby nickname and it stuck. I want people to start calling me %26quot;Ann%26quot; like it says on my birth certificate, but how do I tell people to stop calling me %26quot;Annie%26quot; and start calling me %26quot;Ann%26quot; without them taking it the wrong way?

First, proper English usage calls for %26quot;affect%26quot;, not %26quot;effect%26quot;.

As to your question, it all depends upon the individual. I am seldom called by any name on my birth certificate, if you get my drift, so I would consider what you mention to be inconsequential.

If you wish a name change, see the Yahoo! Answers for %26quot;name change%26quot; (one of the most common questions in Yahoo! Genealogy!) The easiest way to keep your name and have folks call you Ann is to simply tell folks, %26quot;My name is Ann%26quot;. And stick to it. Be gentle, but firm.

I know, kinda lame. My other suggestion is to move and start anew. People can be so, well, you know. Good luck on it! Thanks for %26quot;Best Answer%26quot; !!!

Start with people in your professional life, and work from there. You can ask family and friends but from experience most of them will continue to call you Annie because that's what they have called you all of your life. A few will change to Ann and slip up now and then but most won't unless you move to a new town which is pretty drastic. But go ahead and do it, you will feel better for the change and appreciate the few who remember and forgive the few who forget.
It's affect, not effect. Just by the way.

It doesn't really make much of a difference. It takes a while for people to catch on but other than that, just tell your teachers, your friends, write it on your papers and such. The big thing will be your family but even that is pretty simple. No need to make a big show of it either. It's not a huge deal.
